Bristol, the ceremonial county and city, is located in the south west region of England. The Bristol area is believed to have been settled some 60,000 years ago during the Paleolithic ears. There is evidence of Iron Age forts and many Roman era settlements as well. This ancient city is full of history, culture and fun for visitors to enjoy.

The Ashton Court Estate is a beautiful home that draws many visitors throughout the year. Located on 850 acres of woods and grasslands the estate was once the home of the Smyth family. Throughout the year there are many different festivals and events held on the grounds for visitors to enjoy. There is also biking trails, a miniature railway and two 18 hole golf courses for visitors to enjoy. With plenty of open spaces on the grounds families can enjoy games and picnics during their visit.

Another venue for those looking to enjoy the beauty of the area is the Bristol Cathedral. This church is believed to have been around long before it because truly noticed. It didn't become a stand out until 1140 when a Robert Fitzhardinge founded the nearby Abby of St. Augustine. Since then the beautiful structure has been a prominent part of Bristol's heritage. The building is opened daily to visitors and there are even guided tours on Saturdays or as arranged through the clerk.

If looking at antique buildings doesn't get your blood pumping then there are still things to do. There are many different activities to get the blood pumping through your system. A lot of people would love to see the city of Bristol from up high. If you are one of those then check out Bristol Balloons. You will get to ride high over the beautiful city and see historic sites such as the harbor or the waterways and footbridge. You will get to see the SS Great Britain and many other sites. You will not be able to view Bristol quite the same after you've seen it from the sky.

Don't want to take to the sky, why not hop on a ferry. The Bristol Ferry Boat allows you to see many of the harbor side attractions as you skim around the harbor in one of their ferries. You can see wildlife, eat cream teas or take part in many of their themed trips. You can also charter a ferry for a private affair such as a wedding or commentary tour.

Bristol is also a hopping night scene. You can take in a play at one of the local theatres or a movie at one of the many cinemas. If you want to really enjoy the night life then check out one of their many bars or pubs. You can find a pub or bar to suit just about any taste here in the city of Bristol.
